What is the rate of salt per person per day?

Salt, presented as a gift in ancient Rome, meant a special sign of a friendly disposition. A little later, this simple spice replaced money, and also served as a symbol of wealth. Thus, sodium chloride is vital, but only in a strictly regulated amount.

When the hand once again reaches the saltcellar, it is worth remembering that an overabundance of this product can lead to a fluid retention, thereby having a negative impact on the functioning of the circulatory system (increasing the load), and creating problems for the heart.

The daily rate of this spice is only 10-12 grams, and this is taking into account the fact that the dishes included in the daily diet already contain about 7-8 grams. This means that only 3-4 grams remain for salting, which is slightly less than ½ tsp.

The World Health Organization has recently substantially revised these calculations and brought new recommendations, in which the number of only 2 grams is listed, which is relevant for both men and women.

It is also worth remembering that those who are engaged in active sports can consume a little more salt so that there is always enough liquid in the body. The same applies to hot days, when moisture from the body actively comes out with sweat.

We should also pay attention to the amount of this white powder in the diet of children. Up to 2 years, food is generally recommended not to be salted, after 3 years the rate of consumption per person is 2 grams, at 6 years this mark can be increased by 1-2 points, and in 10 years add to dishes not more ½ tsp.

No matter how much disagreement exists about this, but it’s not for nothing that the salt is called the “white death”, because despite all its positive functions, it can be deadly in excess.
