What is futurology

Divination on the lines of science

The unknown future has always troubled the minds of people, and philosophers have simply been lost in all sorts of theories and scientific concepts. Each of them tried to develop their own course that could help predict the future. For example, the theory of indeterminism, argues that the coming phenomena are not designated from above, and society itself can control its future. Another current asserts the exact opposite - the future of mankind is pre-programmed (the theory of determinism). And according to the third theory, the people themselves are the creators of their future, but all their actions and decisions are predetermined from the beginning.

Past science of the future

As an offshoot of philosophy, modern futurology has concentrated in itself many concepts about the future. But, at the same time, futurology belongs to the field of scientific research, which deals with the prospects of various social phenomena. This science is in some sense synonymous with prediction and forecasting.
For the first time the term futurology appeared in the text of a speech by the famous German sociologist O. Flecht-Heim. This scientist meant by futurology the philosophy of the future - a completely new teaching aimed at studying the future prospects of all social phenomena. In his scientific treatise "History and Futurology," the author calls futurology an effective means in overcoming irrelevant and outdated ideologies.
Before O. Flecht-Kheima, famous thinkers Thomas More and Tomaszo Campanella tried to predict the likely variants of the future social system even in medieval times.

Futurological boom

In the 60s of the last century, the rating of futurology jumped sharply upwards. Political scientists, economists, philosophers undertook to actively predict the future. Began to organize public organizations that analyzed the current situation and simulated options for the future. So the most famous organization created in 1968 is called the "Club of Rome". And in 1974, under the auspices of UNESCO, the futurological center World Federation for the Study of the Future began its activities.
